i'm on safari

As part of this thing I'm trying out again, I'm going to attempt to write in this everyday. again. hopefully it'll last more than a day this time. Resolutions of mine have very short life spans. Let's see. I'm currently shopping around for a new job- maybe something selling books? Binding books? Want to pay me to read books? I'm very quick and efficient.
I'm secretly hoping I get fired because the company can't afford my salary and then I'll just hop on unemployment for a while. I think I have the potential to be a very productive bum. I'm very good at streaming movies online all day, waiting 3 days to do my dishes, and staring at facebook for hours on end. Procrastination is the most refined skill I have in my repertoire.
Yesterday I went to Lake Temescal and swam, frolicked, and took in some sun. I didn't shower the lake off till this morning. I simply was too lazy to take a shower last night. Maybe bacteria is good for my hair. Maybe my locks will gleam in the sun, in that natural way they haven't done since i was 3 and my hair was washed with johnson and johnsons. Oh baby hair. Oh babies! I saw this one little girl in a summer dress on the lake yesterday. She was so chatty and happy. Maybe I'll get a baby instead of a kitty.
We keep the cats' litter box in the bathroom in this apartment. Well, i guess most people do and I don't know why I find it so odd to have it in there. I guess we should all shit in the same place, but why do I have to have dirty kitty litter all over my tile floor? This morning I took a shower, and when I got out, the kitty was waiting for his turn to use the bathroom. He even growled at me as he sauntered in. I guess I did take a bit longer than usual.

syreeta, where you been all my life gurl?

so i was watching junebug again and realized that i loved the opening song more than the movie itself, and went in search of it. fortunately, i wasn't the only one who loved it, and i found it pretty quick. here it is ya'll, my song of the week:

i'm just sorry i didn't find it in time for v day. i've tried looking for other songs like it, but no dice. i think im gona have to make do with listening to it two or three times a day.

employment

yay i'm making money again! bakesale betty's slid in right before my deadline for reverting back to my pizza slinging days and saved my clothes from smelling of old tomato sauce and mozzarella. i now smell of sweet delicious ginger cookies. the next step is finding a suitable apartment (yes pets, no hippies, thanks.), joining the gym, finishing school, and ultimately, TAKING OVER THE WORLD.

glad i got that off my chest. My life's been a pretty bland single serving of novels i had never had so much time to read before, films i hadn't seen before and could've spared myself of, and idle doodling i like to call a comic book in the making. The highlights of my week thus far was seeing all the episodes of aeon flux in one sitting while eating an entire pizza from little caesar's no less (classy!), and watching the kitchen guys at bakesale's jamming to the blow.

yes, it did look a lot like this. only we slid around on dough instead of leaves. i was definitely the guy in the bodysuit pj's and matching bandanas.

so yes, i do like my new job lots. i'm currently trying to get everyone into mya, but they prefer mashonda. figures.

uptown gals

on friday i got caught up on the lword. WOW, that was a funny turn of events! also, went to go see a supremely hispterish band at the uptown called whispertown 2000. they were good... from what i can remember. Let me dance on stage, +1. Cute girls, +2. no ghey -1. meh, they pass. they're like that band you listen to while riding the bus and thinking about fall leaves, or why you're still unemployed. or why you were so lonely in belize even though you knew people there. ya know.

also i'm really into the dodos when in the same mood.

lastly, it's the SF indie movie fest and i really wana catch "Gods, visions and video games" at 7.15 at the Roxie in Sf... it's the collection of animated shorts! Also, the next night "Meet Cute, Love Hard" is playing at 7.15 and it looks pretty darn tasty. and by that, i mean i think it would go great with popcorn and friends.

skee oop!

back in oakland! well, ok. back in the bay ish area. i refuse to find an apartment until i'm employed. I've dropped off more than 15 resumes, filled out less than 10 applications and have had zero phone calls. its ok. its ok. i'd rather wait than shovel pizza again. i really missed you oakland. i missed your chicken sangwiches eaten on ironing boards, i missed your stinky hipster b.o. at skanky clubs in downtown way too late at night, i missed bicycle gangs with only one set of lights. i'm glad to be home.

antigua, coban, lanquin, bartending.

so because of my current location, no new pictures will be added till... late jan. this picture blog thing is a lot more difficult than i thought it was gonna be. i guess i believed in happy internet bars that let you upload pictures dotting the countryside of guatemala. i stayed in antigua for two nights, and that was mre than enough. looking through my pictures on the camera, i´ve realised i didn´t take a single picture there. the highlight of my stay was climbing the pacaya volcano and getting to see lava up close. totally awesome! i can´t wait to post my pictures. it was absolutely beautiful. the next day i headed for lanquin and i´ve since gotten stuck here. i was offered a job as bartender\server with free room and board and couldn´t resist. squee! i live twenty minutes away from semuc champey, one of the most gorgeous natural sites in guatemala.

oh nine, huehue, xela, antigua

2009! what a great way to start this year. my new years activities were limited because of the plans i made for the first, so i didn´t enjoy it as much as i would´ve liked. i ended up at home, with my grandma, drinking my chilean chardonnay by myself (she decided the wine i bought was too strong.. i took it´s strength as a plus). my new years resolution, obv, was to do exactly what my little heart desires. no more, no less. oh, and write/draw everyday. and try to blog. the first fave music video of 2009:

on the first i had a great barbecue lunch with the fam, then went off to spend the night with my grandmother, as we were leaving the next day very early to go up to huehuetenango. The drive up the countryside was absolutely phenomenal. i couldn´t stop taking the pictures the whole way. we passed by many little towns and farming villages. the harvest of wheat starts right about now, and i enjoyed seeing the countryside dotted with little wheatfields that were just starting to be plowed.

it was pretty tought to take any pictures though, the roads, while they are being renovated at the present time, are strill abismal at best. potholes abound, and the dust kicked up by all the cars was enough to kickstart my allergies, which plagued me for the rest of my stay up there.

i think i still got some ok pictures, though they fall short of capturing the beauty of the panaroma.

We stopped at huehuetenango for lunch, and it was a busy little town. it was tough to walk around because there´s very little sidewalk left after they expanded the roads to accomodate the influx of cars. apaprently it has more than doubled in size in the last few years, or since my grandmother passed by last. as with everywhere else in guatemala, there was a lot of construction going on and it was pretty dusty all around.

tiny ass sidewalks, enormous cars.

driving around in huehue, trying to find parking.

after having a fine meal of the national favorite, fried chicken and french fries , we visited the local cemetery.

it was very colorful and quite lively. i liked it a lot better than the somber cemeteries i visited in guatemala city.

we also visited my great uncle´s grave, Jose Ernesto Monzon, who was celebrated throughout guatemala as a prolific songwriter. his grave was dedicated to him by the state of huehuetenango.

the drive into camojallito, where my family runs some coffee farms, was even more picturesque than the drive up. we passed straight through the cuchumatanes, some of the highest peaks in central america.

we reached camojallito in about an hour or so, and i was absolutely exhausted. we pretty much just hung around the house, drank lots of fresh coffee, and watched the beans dry.

at night, we visited the towns of la democracia, and la mesilla. The first a really cute little town, the latter a bordertown with mexico, and quite a sight! unfortunately my camera had died from all the on the road picture taking, and i wasn´t able to capture the sight. it was bumping at ten at night, filled with mexicans, guatemalans (yes, you can tell the diff) and tourists galore. everything was one sale - chinese backpacks, mexcian tequilla, even pseudo abercrombie and fitch polos.

while i have done a lot more since last friday, my internet time is up. i will be writing more about the coffee farms, how coffee is made, and my time in antigua... soon.
